LGAA Open Juried Show 2003
This Year's Winners

JUROR: The juror for this year's Open Juried Show will be John Pugh, a Los Gatos artist internationally known for his Trompe L’oeil murals. He has recently been awarded Alumni of the Year at California State University of Chico and Master Muralist by the Mural Center in San Francisco. To artists entering the show John says, "Don’t be fooled into thinking I will judge the art based on my style of realism. I will be judging on concept, design, composition — real or abstract." Juror's Statement:

"I am honored to judge the Los Gatos Open Juried Show. Selecting artwork is such as n objective process; there are as many variations of criteria as there are people on the planet. I can offer one opinion.
I'm not necessarily looking for the degree of realism in a piece as my personal work might suggest. I will generally choose artwork based on the following guidelines.:

A. Composition - Color, theme, freshness of quality, energy, movement within the piece, and the sequence of discoveries.

B. Concept - Clearly communicating a specific idea, unique perspective or personal emotion in a creative and compelling way.

It was difficult to narrow down the artwork because the overall scopes of entries were strong. It has been a great pleasure to have first-hand experience with the un-edited body of work and all participating artists should be proud of their creations."
