JANUARY 2010
JANUARY 4th – PICHETTI RANCH & WINERY 9am/12noon
Take Freeway 280 to the Foothill Grant Road exit in Cupertino. Travel southwest on Foothill Blvd. 3.5 miles (Foothill Blvd. changes names mid-point to Steven's Canyon Road). You'll travel through a residential section, pass Steven's Creek County Park, Stevens Creek Reservoir and Dam. Montebello Road will appear on your right. Travel up Montebello road 6/10th of mile to Picchetti Winery. The first left hand turn goes to the Picchetti Winery, the second, a very short distance away goes to a general parking area. The Winery does not open to the public until 11:00 am. OK to cross the split rail fence to paint. Lots of turn of the century winery buildings, small creek, tree lined hills and views of the valley.

JANUARY 11th MISSION SAN JUAN BAUTISTA – 9am to Lunch
Our return visit to this Historical Mission Town. 19th century buildings, Mission and Grounds to paint. Take 101 south ,well past Gilroy to Highway 156. Go South 3 miles to the Mission San Juan Bautista Turn 0ff. Follow to end and go right to Plaza Green in front of Mission, Allow 1 hour for Travel.

Historic houses and barns with a California hills backdrop. Take 85
East to Cottle, go right to Santa Teresa left to Camino Verde Dr. Take

Beautiful Mission Style home with great garden and patios and ponds and all sorts of nook and crannies David and Larry hosted us twice in the past and this has became a club favorite

FEBRUARY 2010
FEBRUARY 1st – AlVISO, CA– 9am with at Lunch at Maria’s
From North 101, exit 237 East then exit onto Great America Pkwy, turn left at Yerba Buena Way, turn left at Lafayette St, continue on Gold St, turn right at E Taylor St. and meet in Alviso Marina Park, parking lot. There are levees between marshes and salt evaporation ponds. The Guadalupe River and Coyote Creek both travel north and meet the San Francisco Bay at Alviso. Turn of the century small town buildings, is a National Register Historic District. Because of its atmosphere resembling a small delta town, and many of the old early town structures, still in existence, the character of Alviso is unique. Maria Elena’s restaurant is known for wonderful Mexican lunches and is quite reasonable. Lunch there.

FEBRUARY 8th - ELKHORN SLOUGH South of Watsonville
Beautiful waterways looking back towards the west. Lots of color. Take Hiway 1 to Watsonville. Go East on Riverside Drive to St. Porter Dr. take a right. It will become G12 or Salinas Rd. When Salinas Road curves back towards hiway 1 you will go left on Elkhorn Road. Follow past Kirby Park till you come to a parking lot on right. We will paint there.

FEBRUARY 15th Guadalupe Oak Grove Park, Almaden Valley
Old limestone quarry, large oak grove, meadows, hiking trails and hilltop views! Take Almaden Blvd. south to Coleman. Go right, then left on Porto Alegra, right on Thorntree and right on Sterling Oak Dr. to Park entrance. This won’t look right until you park and walk into the park, past the parking lot and trees. It then opens up to hills, trees, rocks and trail vistas.

FEBRUARY 22nd – Carmel Mission, 3080 Rio Road Carmel, 9am – Noon to Sunset or Overnight
Continue on Hwy 1 past Carmel to Carmel Valley Road, then Rio Road is the next right, proceed to 3080 and the mission, we will be in the parking lot. This site is a California classic subject as well as a staple image in the portfolio of most California Plein Air Artists. Paint in morning, if it’s foggy, paint anyway as it generally clears by 11:00 am; then after a short lunch paint in the afternoon for completely different light paths. Rooms for the 20th and the 21st at the Carmel Mission Inn (3665 Rio Road) run from $99.00 to 149.00. Email Sam Pearson …. to follow with additional information and details.

December 14th - SANTA TERESA BLVD X LAGUNA AVE, San Jose 9am/12noon
Farm and ranch settings and cows, golden hills and green row crops with variety of trees. Meet on the corner of Santa Teresa Blvd and Laguna Ave. Take 85 east to Bernal Rd. go west to Santa Teresa Blvd. Go south past Bailey Ave. to Laguna Ave. Meet on corner. If you come later go either way on Laguna because it dead ends in both directions and we will be easy to find. Parking is tough and no restrooms but views are great.

December 21st - JACKSON RANCH Morgan Hill 9am/12noon
Anderson Lake County Park. The gates may or may not be open however there are wonderful painting views at the gate. Grand Vistas back toward the lake with A Historical House and Barns to paint and California Hills all around. On 101 South go east on Dunne Rd. towards Coe State Park , cross over Anderson bridge, go 2 miles to Jackson Ranch on left which is on a hair-pin turn and signed. Our SIGN will be displayed Ask Sam about his jogging encounter! Allow
45 min to hour for arrival.

December 28th - MOSS LANDING HARBOR 9am/12noon
Working fishing harbor, old and new boats and interesting old buildings. Good eating places so bring a friend and make a day of it. Take 17 South to Watsonville exit. Go South past Watsonville and turn right at power plant onto Moss Landing Rd. Take the next right on Sandholdt Rd. Before bridge turn right into Moss Landing Harbor Parking lot. . Great place to get up close and personal with fishing boats and Elkhork Slough.

November 9th - WILDER STATE PARK, SANTA CRUZ 9am/12noon
A state park, well maintained historic ranch with old adobe, Victorian house and lots of barns and out buildings plus great surrounding coastal landscape. Take Hwy 1 towards Davenport a couple of Miles out of Santa Cruz and the Park entrance will be on Left. The address is 1401 Old Coast Road. Fee at gate is $10.00, parking lot and modern restrooms.

November16th - KELLY PARK San Jose 9am/12noon
Fine old historical Buildings/farm equipment which take you back to the early years in San Jose with plenty of landscape included. Take Capitol Expressway to Senter Road. Go left to to Kelly Park and park between Tea Garden and Historical Park. Next door is Kelly Park with Japanese Gardens with 2 large ponds, waterfalls, landscaping and Japanese buildings.

November 23rd - SANBORN PARK HOSTLE Saratoga 9am/12noon
A 1908 wood structure with redwoods all around, plus a nice road side pond with cattails. Take Big Basin Way out of Saratoga and turn left on Sanborn Road and a right at the Youth Hostel sign. Follow to end and meet in parking lot.

November 30th - ALUM ROCK PARK San Jose 9am/12noon
125 year old park with creek, stone bridges with old trees and nice landscape. Take Penitencia Creek Road off Capitol Expressway. Go east as far as you can drive into park and look for a large parking lot next to creek. Bring a lunch and enjoy the park. Possible fee.

Charming coastal Village with train trestle/bridges/wharf, etc Take 17 South to Highway, and go South to Capitola's Bay Ave. Follow to beach. $1 an hour parking applies (Bring Quarters). Many restaurants for lunch.

Small but historical and weathered downtown and coffee house and restaurants for after a fun day of painting. Take Hwy 1 north from Santa Cruz (or Hwy 1 south from Pescadero) to Davenport. Meet at coffee house parking lot at 9. Map shows from Los Gatos to Davenport.

AUGUST 10 - HOME OF PATTI HUGHES - 23107 SUMMIT RD, SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS 9am/12noon
Quite Mountain Setting with Monet-like pond, old farm equipment, barn and lots of redwoods. Take Hayway 17 south to Summit Road. Go East on Summit and left on Trial Ridge(about 1 mile from 17; look for rack of mailboxes on left). Take Trial Ridge about 1/4 mile and look for parking lot in redwood Grove on right.

AUGUST 31 - SANTA CRUZ BOAT HARBOR
Boat harbor, carriage house, grand oaks and nearby beach and light house. Bring quarters for meters and lunch money. Take highway 17 to Santa Cruz. Go to end of Ocean Ave. and turn left on East Cliff Drive. Go right on Sea Bright and left on Atlanta Ave. At end, turn left into harbor Parking lot, park on far left.

July 6 and 13 Muns' Vineyard 25600 Loma Prieta Drive Los Gatos
Beautiful views of the vineyard, Monterey and surrounding areas. Take Hiway 17 S. Exit at Summit Rd. When you exit, make a right at the top of the exit ramp and come back across the hiway, then make a left onto Summit Rd. Stay on Summit for 2 miles and make a left on Loma Prieta Ave. Follow Loma Prieta 2.7 miles up the hill through the pear orchards all the way to the top. On the way, the road will narrow and curve around a house and barn next to the road. Continue on until you get to a private drive that leads to Muns. At that point the public road bears to the right, flattens out and turns to dirt. The road to Muns continues straight up the hill and you will see a sign for 'private drive.' At the top of the drive it splits and you go to the right. Drive through the gate and park parallel to the fence.

July 13 Black Ridge Winery 18550 Black Road, Los Gatos, CA
Expansive views of valley, Lexington , vineyards. Take Hiway 17 S and exit at Bear Creek Rd./Black Rd. After stopping at stop sign, continue straight on Montevina Rd until you get to Black Rd, which will be on your left about 300'. Go .5 mile up Black Rd. The winery is on the left and is the second stone entrance with 2 gates. Main entrance is gate on left and will be open.

Take 85S and exit at Almaden Expressway. Turn left at Emporium Way and then right at Almaden Expressway. Continue for about 5 miles until road dead ends at Harry Rd. Turn right onto Harry Rd, then first left at McKean Rd. and continue for 2.3 miles. Turn left at Timothy Lane and park parallel to fence. Look for an old red barn. There is another old barn nearby and a charming old white farm house.
We are welcome to use the bathroom at Diana's house, which is to the right off the family room. Do not unload your stuff here.
July 27 Silver Mountain Winery Off Summit Road
Vineyard with spectacular views of the valley and the ocean. Take Hiway 17 S and exit at Summit Rd. When you exit make a right at the top of the exit ramp and come back across the hiway, then make a left onto Summit Rd. Drive 3.8 miles on Summit, make a right onto San Jose-Soquel Rd and drive .5 miles. Make a left onto Miller Cut Off and then go .9 miles to Silver Mountain Drive. The driveway and gate will be on your left.
Drive up the driveway all the way to the top and park next to the vineyard. Additional spaces below near large metal storage tanks.

June 1 and 8 Presentation Center 19480 Bear Creek Road Los Gatos
Hiway 17 S , take Bear Creek Road exit and turn left onto Bear Creek. Presentation Center is about 2 miles down on your left.
June 15 and 22 Wilder State Park
Highway 17 S to Highway 1 N. Wilder State Park is about 4 miles out of Santa Cruz. Left turn off the highway. Parking fee of $6.00
June 29 La Rusticana 15700 Kennedy Rd. Los Gatos, CA 95032
An Italian villa in LG owned by Frank and Marilyn d'Orsa. Dozens of charming painting locations, breathtaking views of the valley, vineyards, etc.
From Saratoga, take Los Gatos - Saratoga Rd. through LG. Turn left on Los Gatos Blvd, right on Kennedy Rd and continue on Kennedy for 2.2 miles. Always bear to the right and avoid Longmeadow and S. Kennedy Rd. La Rusticana is on the right and is a sharp turn up their driveway. Once through the gate, proceed all the way to the top to park. You may want to unload your gear by the house/stone wall near the gate. Bathrooms are in the wine barn.

Paint the mission, unique historical downtown, old buildings and gardens. We enjoy lunch together at a local restaurant, with some returning to paint in the afternoon.

We’ll meet ant the corner of Main and Santa Cruz Ave.
Then we’ll spread out and look for good locations for
the upcoming Plein Air event.

A new painting favorite, with the beautiful mission, unique
historical downtown, old buildings and gardens. We have enjoyed
a group lunch at a local restaurant with some retuning to paint
in the afternoon.
MONDAY FEBRUARY 9TH AND 16TH VASONA COUNTY PARK Los
Gatos
9am to 12 noon
Our local favorite, with lots to paint. Meet in parking lot
past first small bridge on the left. Fee, unless you have a
senior pass.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 23RD, PALM AVENUE, COYOTE VALLEY 9am
to noon
Development looms, but for the time being there are idyllic
farms and ranches. Take Santa Teresa Blvd. past bailey to Palm
Ave. See you at the corner.
