What's the Big Idea?
ONLINE

Nancy Takaichi discusses the importance of a strong design plan and how to accomplish creating one.

Nancy is a California Impressionist who paints Plein Air.  She shows how a strong design benefits all forms of art.  She also explains her use of Notans, and walks us through the steps that go into creating a balanced and harmonious composition.

Letter from the President

The past four months have been the busiest that many of us can recall.  We had two major juried shows. One was live at the New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU). There also was the Artist of the Year competition, the Annual Members' Art Critique, and a new website!  Thank you to those who helped make these events happen!

Special thanks goes to Elke Groves and Susan Jochheim for putting together the Fall Members' Juried show; Marilyn Haley our webmaster, for such a beautiful website; Rachel Tirosh for creating and running the Instagram Gallery; and Sue Levy for creating our public Member Directory. An additional thanks to Elke Groves and Jeff Owen for coordinating the Greater Bay Area Open (GBAO) competition and exhibition so masterfully.

I am happy to report that we are going LIVE starting April 10th!  We return to our former meeting place in Los Gatos at Congregation Shir Hadash, 20 Cherry Blossom Lane.  Please note that our meeting time is changing to 1:30 pm starting in April.  We will follow the most recent county guidelines for Covid safety.

Our beloved Rebecca Lillis White is retiring after being the shepherdess of the Plein Air group since 2007.  We are tremendously grateful for Rebecca's tireless leadership!  She built up the group to the large number of loyal artists in it today.  Annie Haines will be the sole chairperson with the help of a few others to run the Tuesday critique sessions.  Susan Migliore also helps by posting the paintsites onto our website.

Our Members' Gallery on Instagram is once again in full swing—this time under the direction of Sue Levy.  For those who contribute art to the gallery, we will continue having a monthly raffle.  The winner receives a $25 gift certificate from University Art.

I'm looking forward to seeing you again after being sequestered for two years!

Warmest regards,
Jane Loomis
