Caroline Mustard

Using a Digital Art App
(to Solve Painting Dilemmas)
LIVE DEMO
Congregation Shir Hadash
20 Cherry Blossom Lane, Los Gatos

If you already use an art app for envisioning variations in your traditional art or for creating digital art, then you already know how much fun it can be. However, if this is entirely new, you can discover its joys and usefulness by seeing this demo. You can learn a lot either by just watching, or by bringing your mobile phone or tablet and experimenting as you follow along.

To see more examples of Carolyn's work, visit her website at CarolineMustard.com

Jan Silverman, Master Printer

Photographing, Digitizing, and Printing your Art
LIVE DEMO
Congregation Shir Hadash
20 Cherry Blossom Lane, Los Gatos

Owner of Artistry Printing, Jan has expertise in producing Gallery-quality prints and digital images of art work. He will discuss all phases of the process from photographing to digitizing and printing.

He will resolve many questions artists often ask, such as:
- What are the best file formats to use and why? (It's not JPEGs!)
- What print media to use? (paper, canvas, metal, etc.)
- How large can I print?
- Why don't prints look like they do on my monitor?
- What is giclee? (a specialty of Jan's)

To learn more about Jan and his work, see his website at ArtistryPrinting.com

Letter from the President

After being homebound for two years, hopefully you are venturing out to enjoy the outdoor world once again. With the Bay Area's beautiful weather and the longer days, seeing the beauty and bounty of nature is certainly refreshing and inspiring for artists. Let us enjoy it all that we can. May your creative spirit spring forth!

One of our long-time members, Betty McGuire, has moved out of the local area to a coastal town. Betty held varied board positions, and we wish to thank her for her many years of service. She most recently was our Awards Chairperson, so this position is now open. It is for someone who can attend most monthly meetings, tally the peer review votes, and award ribbons to the three top winners.

We still need VOLUNTEERS! Our club is run entirely by volunteers. We desperately need more Board Members! There are now 6 important positions to be filled. Unless some members step up to help out, we might need to temporarily discontinue live demo meetings, the newsletter, and the monthly peer reviews. That would be sad for a club like ours with so much talent! Please contact me if you are interested in any of the openings listed at the end of this newsletter. I can provide further details.

Kennedy Road Art Show + Summer Party
The Kennedy Road Art Show is a yearly week-long event held in Los Gatos at the park-like residence of LGAA members Hershel Abelman and Ingeborg Jakobson. The show is open to local artists of all levels. This year's theme is Reflections. The Party and Show is a simultaneous event, and members are welcome to bring guests. Note that the party takes place in lieu of the LGAA monthly meeting and is open to the public. Members are welcome to bring guests.

I'm looking forward to this exciting event. I hope you are too!

Warmest wishes,
Jane Loomis

LGAA Members' Gallery

LGAA Members' Peer Review (Gallery) has been a long-held tradition of displaying members' newly created art and shown at every monthly meeting. All members attending the meeting voted by paper ballot for their favororites and the winners were awarded Artists of the Month with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons. In December the composite votes for the year were tallied and the winner was awarded Artist of the Year.

With the onset of covid in February 2020, we discontinued live meetings.  To fill in for the missing Peer Review Gallery, a special online gallery was created on the social media platform, Instagram. This gallery continues today due its popularity.

LGAA Members may submit one recent art image to the Instagram Gallery each month. A random drawing of the submissions for that month is held during the following month's LGAA demo meeting. The winners receive a $25 gift certificate for art supplies from University Art and may add LGAA Artist of the Month to their art resumes. Interested in participating?
